Activities for Young People

Junior Church
We are nearly fifty strong, and are organised by age groups: beginners (3s and 4s), primary (5s to 7s), junior (8s to 10s) and SOUL (see below). The Junior Church meets on Sundays during the school term. Normally, we join in the first part of the Sunday morning service, before moving into our own areas (in or near the Church hall) for our particular activities, following an all-inclusive second hymn chosen for the piano. On Communion Sundays (first Sunday in the month) we start in our own areas and join the congregation later during the service, for Communion. On several occasions during the year we join with the senior Church for all-age worship, which they sometimes ask us to lead. On Mothering Sunday we distribute home-made items and at Christmas we present a home-made nativity play.

Soul
We are the Senior group in the Junior Church. We have our own name ("Soul") and our own upper room ("The Zone"). There are nearly twenty of us on the books (ages from 11 to 18) and we come when we can. We drink fair-traded coffee and hot chocolate, sitting on sofas and beanbags. The subjects of our discussions are top secret, but we can tell you that they have included "parents" and "the environment" and that we spent a whole season combing Mark's gospel for clues in assembling "the Jesus jigsaw". Once a month we put a member of the senior Church on "the hotseat" and make them tell us about their life and play a favourite piece of music, before writing them up in the Church magazine. They generally survive.
